february makeup favourites

This month I thought that rather than do a "monthly favourites" type of post that I would instead talk a bit about the products that I have been using basically all month for my everyday work makeup. While I may switch the look up a bit day to day (eyeliner? No eyeliner? Bold lip? A pretty gloss?) the products I reach for tend to pretty much stay the same. Now, of course I swap things in and out as seasons change and as I get new goodies. But if I had to say "This is what I used this month" well this photo would sum it up.

Most days when I have been doing my makeup this month it has been for work. My typical work look is pretty, clean and polished. I don't really reach into looks that are too exciting, save for a bold berry lip. My office is just that-- an office. I strive to look neat and presentable. Lately on the weekends I have been letting my skin just breathe while I pack up for the big move.

For foundation I have been wearing my Clarins BB Detox Fluid* applying it with my Tarte Airbrush Finish Foundation Brush. I find that this combo is a quick and efficient way to apply my foundation flawlessly. Of course I love my BeautyBlender but it just does not work as well on BB creams.

My next step is to grab my Too Faced Mr. Right* brush and to apply wither my Benefit Hoola or my Too Faced Milk Chocolate Soliel* bronzer in the classic "3" shape on my face. I love these bronzers equally. When I want more of a glow I reach for Hoola, but when I want something more matte and more defined then Milk Chocolate is my go-to. Lately I have not been contouring for work (its a bit much) so Milk Chocolate gives me the subtle definition when I need it.

My go-to blush this last month has been Too Faced Love Flush Blush in "How Deep Is Your Love*. This pop of pinky-coral really freshens up my face adding both warmth and a glow. While I love this blush with a tan in the summer (it is in my go-to bag as a hold over from Cuba)  it has really grown on me and my pale winter skin. I wonder what other "summer" products I would also love in the winter...

And because you know I need my highlighter, I recently picked up cult favourite MAC Soft & Gentle and it is everything I imagined and more. This pretty pink gleam is subtle enough for every day, but still leaves me glowing.

In terms of other tools, my Tweezerman Eyelash Curler* deserves an honourable mention. While I don't always have time to curl my lashes in the morning before mascara, on the days that I do I really notice a difference. I love how much more open they make my eyes! I have also been using an old Stila blush brush (by the way, Stila recently because cruelty free!), a Lise Watier crease brush and a Sonia Kashuck eye blending brush.

My brow product has been without fail my Colour Pop Dope Taupe Brow Pencil. Retailing at $5 USD this pencil gets everything right, and leaves my brows looking done up without looking too unnatural. I love how easy it is to build up so I can decide how I want them for a night out vs. a typical day at work. This pencil is great at making me look polished! Another old faithful is y MAC Paintpot in Painterly. I use this on its own and as a base for eyeshadow every single day. In fact I am pretty sure I am now on my third pot since I first was introduced to this amazing product. I love the way it hides the veins on my eyelids and reduces redness.

For my lips I have been rotating between my Too Faced Sweet Peach Lip Oils*, Tarte Tarteist Lip Paint in "Bestie"*, Nudestix Intense Matte Lip + Cheek Pencil in Icon* and my mini Bite Amuse Bouche Lipstick in "Honeycomb"*. Together these lippies give me a nude matte, a bold matte, a pink gloss and a nude satin lipstick. For my day-to-day that is really all I need.

Finally my mascara has been switching between my Tarte Tartiste mascara (which is basically on its last legs but I can't bare to part with it) and my new Clarin's Super Volume mascara. I reach for Tarte when I want something bolder, and for Clarin's for my everyday.

I hope that you enjoyed this take on a monthly favourites post. If my "go-to" switches up significantly by the end of March I just may write one of these again! If there are any products I have mentioned here that you would really like to see a more fulsome review on please do let me know! Happy March!

Products marked with a * were sent for review. Opinions as always are mine!
